Davner for pain management
Pain management prior auth, done for you.
Davner handles authorizations for injections, ablations, and stimulator trials from submission to approval, so procedures stay on the schedule.
Davner is a prior authorization service for interventional pain practices. It reviews the clinical and procedure notes, checks each payer’s criteria for the ordered procedure, submits through the right channel (portal, fax, phone, or clearinghouse), follows up until there’s a decision, and supports denials and appeals. Practices send cases through their EHR, secure upload, fax, or email.

Why pain management authorizations stall
Most delays aren’t about medical necessity. They come from gaps between what the chart says and what the payer needs to see.
The procedure note doesn’t answer the payer’s questions
An RFA request asks how much relief each diagnostic block gave, usually as a percentage. If the note says “good relief,” someone has to go back for the numbers, or the request stalls.
Procedure dates run up against payer clocks
When a date of service is within three business days, Davner marks the case STAT automatically and moves it to the front of the queue. Staff can also mark any case STAT themselves.
Plans change before the procedure
The physician adds a level or switches approaches, and the request no longer matches. Your team adds the change to the request, and Davner works from the update.
Pain management services we authorize
Published policy is only half of it. Davner checks each request against the questions the payer actually asks, before it goes out.
Epidural steroid injections
Radicular pain with correlating exam or imaging findings, failed conservative care such as physical therapy and medications, and frequency limits on repeat injections.

Facet injections and medial branch blocks
Facet-mediated pain without radiculopathy, failed conservative care, and documented relief from diagnostic blocks, often against a specific percentage threshold.
64490 · 64493
Radiofrequency ablation
Two positive diagnostic blocks with documented relief and, for a repeat ablation, how much relief the last one gave and for how long.
64633 · 64635
Spinal cord stimulation
Qualifying chronic neuropathic pain, failed conservative care, a psychological evaluation, and a successful trial before the permanent implant.
63650 · 63685
Sacroiliac joint injections
SI joint pain supported by provocative exam tests, failed conservative care, and documented response to earlier injections.

Pain management prior authorization questions
Which pain management procedures require prior authorization?
It depends on the payer and plan, but epidural steroid injections, facet injections and medial branch blocks, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, and SI joint injections commonly require prior authorization. Davner checks each request against the specific payer’s requirements.
How does Davner handle diagnostic block requirements?
Davner reviews the procedure notes for what the payer asks about, such as the number of blocks, the percentage of relief, and how long it lasted, and flags gaps before the request is submitted.
Can Davner handle repeat injections and ablations?
Yes. Davner checks each request against the payer’s frequency limits and the documented response to the last procedure before it goes out.
Do we need an EHR integration to get started?
No. Teams can share case details and clinical documents by secure upload, fax, or email. Davner also integrates with many EHRs, including ModMed, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, and NextGen.
Can Davner help with peer-to-peers and appeals?
Yes. Davner automatically appeals denials based on an invalid or incorrect reason. If a denial can only be overturned through a peer-to-peer, your practice arranges it, and Davner provides the denial reason and a justification to use.
How much work is left for our staff?
Very little. Davner takes the prior authorization work off your team’s plate. Staff upload the clinical records and verify the details Davner fills in; Davner handles submission, follow-up, and the payer back-and-forth from there.
Will we lose visibility into our prior authorizations?
No, you gain it. Every request shows its current status, payer updates, and call transcripts, and your team can comment on a request at any time to ask a question or share a change.
Who on our team can start a request?
Anyone. A physician assistant, scheduler, or authorization coordinator can start a request as soon as the procedure is ordered, so nothing waits on a single person.
Is Davner HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Davner is HIPAA and SOC 2 compliant, a BAA is available, and data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
